How to go to Nepal

Where is Nepal? – Nepal is a landlocked country in the southern Asia, between the two large countries, China and India, there are only two ways of go to Nepal – by air, and by land from India & Tibet (China).

Go to Nepal by Air

All air passengers form foreign countries land in Nepal’s only international airport in Kathmandu – the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA Kathmandu Airport). Various international airliners like Flydubai, Air Asia, Oman Air, Lufthansa, Indian Airlines, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Dragon air, Jet airways, Silk Air etc. including Nepal’s national carrier the Nepal Airlines conduct direct flight to Kathmandu form Bangkok, Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Dhaka, Frankfurt, Singapore, Lhasa, Hong Kong, etc. However, the schedules keep changing; therefore please contact your local agent for the latest schedules.

Go to Nepal from Asia by Air

The most reasonable connections to Kathmandu are via Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Delhi, Abudhabi, Doha, Shanghai, Oshaka, Kualalumour, Kolkata, Varanashi, Banglore, Mumbai, Paro, Dhaka and Lhasa. There are IT (inclusive tour) fares on all these sectors. Check the flights of Royal Nepal Airlines, Flydubai, Air Asia, Oman Air, Lufthansa, Indian Airlines, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Dragon air, Jet airways, Silk Air etc. Bangkok flights are heavily booked in the high season, but it’s sometimes worth hanging around the airport looking for a stand-by seat to Kathmandu. From India flights are fully booked – usually by Indian tourists.

Go to Nepal From Europe and the Middle East by Flight

Nepal Airlines operates two flights per week from Dubai. Contact its agency in Dubai for cheap excursion fares. Transavia & Austrian airlines also operates direct flight from Amsterdam & Vienna respectively. Bangladesh Biman brings passenger to Kathmandu via Dhaka 4 times in a week. Aeroflot have best fare to Nepal from all cities of Europe and operates flight via Delhi. From Germany, look at charter flights; LTU operates a weekly flight from Germany to Kathmandu during winter.

Go to Nepal From North America

North America is halfway around the world from Nepal, so you have a choice of crossing either the Atlantic or Pacific oceans. If you are flying via the Atlantic, you will probably be happier connecting with a direct flight to Kathmandu from London or Frankfurt. Avoid flights via India as the Delhi to Kathmandu fare is high and transit facilities at Delhi airport are tedious. Pacific routes usually require an overnight stay in Bangkok or Hong Kong, but there are frequent flights and most airlines have APEX fares one way from the west coast to Kathmandu. Northwest, United, Korean and Thai International all offer excursion fares from the west coast to Kathmandu via Bangkok

Get to Nepal From Australia

Look for routes via Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok. Check with Cathay pacific, Qantas for best fare to Nepal via Bangkok & Hongkong

Get to Nepal by Land

Most of the tourists using the land routes are Indians, and foreigner visiting Nepal via India. The major entry points on the India – Nepal border are Kakarbhitta via Darjeeling, Birgunj via Raxaul, Bhairahawa via Gorakhpur, Biratnagar via Jogbani, Mahendra Nagar via Rupaidiya. Those traveling by train from Delhi or Varanasi find the Gorakhpur – Sunauli – Bhairahawa route most convenient.

The road transport is also available from Tibet(China) to Nepal via the Khasa Bazaar on the Nepal – China Border.

Entry and Exit points in Nepal

The following entry and exit points are prescribed for the purpose of the foreigners entering into and departing from the Nepal. Deviation from these points at the time of entry or exit shall be treated as the violation of immigration rules.

  2. Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal).
  3. Birgunj, Parsha (Central Nepal).
  4. Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border).
  5. Belahia, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi (Western Nepal).
  6. Jamunaha, Nepalgunj, Banke (Mid Western Nepal).
  7. Mohana, Dhangadhi, Kailali (Far Western Nepal).
  8. Gadda Chauki, Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur (Far Western Nepal).
